Abbey Board has developed a new environmentally friendly corrugated packaging product that can be shaped to the item it is to protect.
Concern for the environment is never far away when considering packaging. AbbeyFibreForm provides a “green” solution. It’s manufactured from 100% virgin fibre pulp and if requested can be supplied FSC accredited. Also, importantly, it can be recycled through normal waste collection routes. In addition, by adding barriers for food packaging, it provides an alternative to other food packaging materials.
Based on fibre that can be shaped and embossed AbbeyFibreForm is quite different from corrugated packaging as we know it - it’s mouldable, making it an alternative to using plastics and EPS foam for all sorts of applications from gifts to food to POS to blister packs.
Key advantages include the ability to litho print directly onto its surface which makes it easy to apply branding to the packaging of the product being protected, and also because AbbeyFibreform is actually microflute it can eliminate the requirement for secondary packaging completely for some items.
Investing in new packaging can be costly and time consuming but moving to AbbeyFibreForm is simple. The product can be processed and formed using existing equipment, so there is no additional expense and the transition is smooth.
Well-designed packaging emphasises and indeed can become part of a brand image. With this new corrugated product it is now possible to further differentiate products using a product that has a tactile, natural feel and which can take the shape required to both protect and innovative a product’s appearance.
Tony Stone, Speciality Sales Manager, Abbey Board said “We are delighted to have developed AbbeyFibreForm for the packaging market. It’s an excellent alternative to other types of packaging and provides the opportunity to enhance the appearance of products. Importantly, it’s easy to recycle using normal waste collection routes, and it can be supplied with FSC certification to confirm that the wood pulp used in manufacture comes from sustainable forest sources.”
