Abbey To Play Key Role In Atlas Expansion

Work has begun on a new design and production facility for Atlas Packaging in Barnstaple which, when completed in December, will enable the company to double its capacity.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the first stage of construction on the 4 acre site, Atlas managing director Adrian Gamble who founded the company in 1983 said "Sheer volume of work and the need for modern cost-effective production lines means we could not stand still. This new 44,000 sq ft building on a greenfield site will allow us to introduce new technology and create the best working environment for our 66 employees."

Amongst the representatives of the various organisations and agencies attending the ceremony was Brian Edwards, sales and marketing director of Abbey Corrugated which has been the prime supplier of corrugated board to Atlas since its earliest days.

"This new factory will secure the position of Atlas as the largest independent corrugated sheet plant in the South West, said Brian, "I am sure that the new premises will facilitate significant expansion of a very dynamic and innovative business."

Adrian Gamble said that he was aiming for a 20 per cent growth rate once the new facilities are up and running. "To achieve that means we will be relying very much on the quality and service of our key suppliers like Abbey.

"Abbey has always given us full and total backing with a depth of support at every level. It is their ability to understand and respond to our daily needs that has played a key role in our success to date."
