Abbey Comes First!

[CPA Audit 2000 Safety Award]

Abbey Corrugated has been placed first in the Sheet Feeding section of the Corrugated Packaging Association's 'The CPA Audit 2000 Safety Award'.

'The CPA Audit 2000 Safety Award' is a new safety award initiative that has been introduced by the re-formed health and safety committee of the Corrugated Packaging Association (CPA). The CPA represents 95 per cent of the top corrugated companies in the UK.

Commenting on the award, Abbey's Richard Caunt said, "We have always placed great emphasis and spent a great deal of time and effort on health and safety at our Blunham plant. It also accounted for a sizeable part of our recent £multi-million investment programme so we are particularly pleased to see our efforts acknowledged in this award."

Bill Callaghan, who is chairman of the Health and Safety Commission, said "I am very pleased to award Abbey Corrugated with the CPA 2000 Health and Safety Audit Award.

"Awards like these make a real contribution to raising the profile of health and safety and demonstrate the hard work, partnership and commitment from everyone at Abbey Corrugated towards improving their performance."

Assessment for this award covers fifteen sections ranging from management accountability to waste and hygiene procedures and involved a daylong visit by an independent assessor to Abbey's Blunham plant. At the end of the visit, spot interviews were held with a number of operators to confirm that the correct procedures were being carried out.
