New Sample Box

A sample box containing nearly one hundred different grades and types of corrugated board has been produced by Abbey and will be available to convertors and other users by January 2004. It represents what is thought to be the most comprehensive range of boards offered by a single provider in the UK.

"With our two plants at Blunham and Kettering dedicated to conventional and speciality markets, we are not only the UK’s leading sheetfeeder, we are a full service provider", said John Blackburn, Abbey’s sales and marketing director.

"Apart from samples of board, our new sample box also has a multi-page booklet which explains the determining factors in choosing the best grade or type of board for each application. It is virtually an encyclopedia of the corrugating industry dealing, amongst other considerations, with the effects of humidity, the effect of time on compressive strength, and how to measure containability and compressibilty."

The sample box, which measures 430x180x150mm, is designed to be portable and easy to use. It is double skinned in E flute with tapering sides and has a hinged lid with a drop handle and two plastic locking clips. The contents are sub-divided for ease of reference and each sample conforms to the shape of the box and is identified by grade or type ranging from microflute to the very latest claycoated and speciality boards.

Even the box is used to illustrate the characteristics of the board with the lid being litho printed onto 150g art paper mounted to a 150kg Kraft/150g white top Kraft E flute and the base is screen printed onto a 190g claycoat/150g white top Kraft E flute.

Abbey customers will receive their boxes through their usual Abbey contact, but boxes are freely available to other customers on request to Abbey customer services.
