‘Added value’ training for Abbey customers
Abbey Corrugated has chalked up another first by providing its sheet plant customers with a series of employee training courses on a ‘below cost’ basis which, it is claimed, will add even further value to its customer service.
"It is vital for all of our customers to have people trained up to the various standards now required by legislation in the workplace." said Adrian Swindells, Abbey Corrugated’s operations manager.
Milton Keynes based Reedbut is one of the first of Abbey’s customers to take advantage of the scheme as its managing director Trevor Green explained.
"A qualified H&S assessor from Abbey has already visited our plant and looked at the systems we have in place and discussed possible improvements with our manufacturing manager. As a result, we are setting up a day long course at Abbey’s Blunham site for a number of our key people.
"We have used Abbey as a sole supplier for almost twelve months and we have found them totally committed to the customer/supplier partnership concept. They have a very proactive philosophy."
At present, the courses range from a four day IOSH ’Managing Safety’ package designed for managers, supervisors and team leaders who have a responsibility for H&S development and implementation, to a one day training course for a Fork Truck licence. All instructors are fully qualified and certified to issue the appropriate certificates and licences.
"Apart from our charges being significantly discounted, our instructors are fully conversant with the corrugated board industry which gives a keener focus to their training techniques," said Swindells.
Other courses include Risk Assessment and Manual Handling together with Noise Assessment training by a fully qualified person which is provided complete with a list of recommended actions. This will help the sheetplants to comply with the new noise standards coming into force in 2006.
At present there are around twelve courses scheduled to start in February 2005 including three consultancy / pre audit courses for ISO 9000, 14001 and 18001, and an Investors in People consultancy course.
