ABBEY TO LAUNCH NEW RANGE OF BOARDS
|
A new range of boards will shortly
be launched by Abbey Board under the newly created AbbeyLam brand. AbbeyLam
is a dedicated range of grades specifically designed and produced for
mounting litho sheets and will comprise 20 double faced grades and 6
single face grades.
These grades have been developed to eliminate some of
the issues that can occur during the lamination process such as bubbling,
delamination, washboarding, out of square line-up, excessive glue usage,
post lamination warp and other problems.
Abbey’s experience of producing both double and
single face material for mounting has shown that a perfect sheet is unlikely
to be produced unless the corrugator has been set up specifically to match
the requirements of the mounting process, so a number of techniques have
been developed in the production of AbbeyLam.
By controlling the moisture level of the sheet for example,
it provides a more stable board in the lamination process, maintains the
overall shape of the bonded materials and helps the litho sheet bond quickly
and naturally.
It also requires less glue that not only reduces cost,
it reduces the possibility of bubbling and warp which in turn reduces
waste and improves productivity. Once AbbeyLam board has been produced,
it is allowed to cure in a controlled environment then wrapped to prevent
the board from gaining or losing moisture.
During the development of AbbeyLam, Swanline Print,
which is now probably the UK’s most successful trade print house
in the sector, used the new materials with great success as Swanline managing
director Nick Kirby explained. “We have worked closely with Abbey
on a number of projects and I believe that AbbeyLam offers a unique board
range for mounting and is, in my opinion, the best corrugated board available
in the UK today.”
Using AbbeyLam will result in fewer mounting issues;
reduce glue consumption, provide an ideal laminating surface, enable lighter
weight litho sheets to be used without increasing flute show and, because
bond times are quicker, run speeds are increased. Initially, there will
be twenty-six grades of AbbeyLam board available as a standard offering
and the minimum order quantity is 1000sqm.
